Three Certified Reference Materials for organ function related enzymes released

24 August 2016

The JRC released three new Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) applicable for in-vitro diagnostics to monitor the function and state of heart, liver and soft tissue

The three CRMs were produced by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in close collaboration with the International Federation for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC). These materials - ERM®-AD455k/IFCC , ERM®-AD454k/IFCC and ERM®-AD453k/IFCC - are certified for the catalytic activity concentration of creatine kinase (CK), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LD). The catalytic activity concentrations of these enzymes are frequently measured by clinical laboratories for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction, diseases affecting the integrity of liver cells and the progress of conditions causing tissue damage. All three materials were produced following ISO Guide 34:2009 and support the implementation of European Directive 98/79/EC on In Vitro Diagnostics and the requirement to make clinical measurements traceable to reference materials and/or reference methods.
